Diablo View Rotary Club Serves Thanksgiving

  • November 30, 2011

Walnut Creek –7 AM on Thanksgiving morning, seven members from the Diablo View Rotary Club climbed into a car headed to the Salvation Army Harbor House in San Francisco. Harbor House, normally transitional housing for homeless families with children, served as the base camp for volunteers from all over the bay to pack Thanksgiving dinners.

Organized into a production line, Diablo View Rotary Club members had a role in filling empty trays with stuffing, turkey, gravy, green beans, and sweet potatoes. The 4,600 meals prepared and packaged all morning by many volunteers were delivered to home bound residents on Thanksgiving day.

“This was a great event for us, we were up and on the road at sunrise on Thanksgiving morning,” said club president Christian Amsberry, “It highlights our commitment to community service.”

Members of the club plan to volunteer at the Contra Costa Food bank in December and are looking for another service opportunity for Christmas morning.

The Diablo View Rotary Club is a “cocktail hour” club that meets on Tuesdays weekly from 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM at Pyramid Alehouse in downtown Walnut Creek. The club focuses on community service projects and welcomes visitors to come by and check out our meetings. www.DiabloViewRotary.com
