13 Arrests on Big Party Night Downtown

WCPD: Large fight on Locust Street and 3 DUI arrests on Saturday night-Sunday morning.

Walnut Creek police were busy downtown on perhaps the busiest party night of the year.

There were 13 arrests Saturday night and Sunday morning, Sgt. Steve Gorski reported: two for assault, two for fighting in public, five for public intoxication, three for DUI and one on a felony warrant.

One fight at 1:25 a.m.  involving six to eight subjects took place on Locust Street between Bonanza and Cypress, at which two were arrested on suspicion of fighting in public. Two people had minor injuries that did not involve hospitalization, Gorski said. One injury was the result of an individual who had refused to stop fighting getting struck with an officer's baton, Gorski said.

There was also a smaller fight at the Vice Ultra Lounge on Arroyo Way, Gorski said.

A driver crashed his car around 2:45 a.m. Sunday at Ygnacio Valley Road and Bancroft Road and fled the scene. A short time later, he tried to report his car stolen and was arrested for DUI and hit and run, Gorski said.
