Animal Rescue Foundation Honors 'Sully'

Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation is honoring Danville's Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger and his wife Lorrie at its inaugural ARF Awards Dinner in September.

"Sully" is the pilot who successfully landed in the Hudson River after the plane hit a flock of geese, knocking out the engine. Sullenberger was able to save all 155 passengers on board.

ARF is awarding the Sullenbergers the "Hope Award," named for an ARF dog that overcame many obstacles to stand on all four feet. This award salutes those who embody the human-animal bond. The Sullenbergers are longtime ARF fosters and volunteers.

The awards dinner takes place on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco. Tony and Elaine La Russa and friends will be on hand for an event featuring a cocktail reception, silent auction, gourmet dinner, and award presentation to our distinguished honorees.

The Media Award honors Good Morning America tech correspondent Becky Worley for showcasing ARF’s programs to a national audience.
