City's Veterans Day Celebration to Focus on Civil War

Families will present letters and diaries from Civil War at Friday, Nov. 11 ceremony.

If you have great-grandpa's diary as a Confederate drummer boy carefully stored in your desk, the City of Walnut Creek has an idea for you.

Marking the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War, the city's Veterans Day celebration will showcase the Civil War veteran stories of local families from letters, diaries and oral history.

The free event will be at the , 1601 Civic Dr., at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.

The ceremony will feature a presentation of these Civil War stories. The ceremony will also include a welcome from Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva and a musical presentation by the Walnut Creek Concert Band, including a number of Civil War songs. The Concert Band is under the direction of Harvey Benstein.
