Q: If I had skin cancer once, does that mean I'm going to get it again?
A: Having one cancer puts you at a higher risk of having a secondary cancer – and skin cancer is no exception. There are three main types of skin cancer: Squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell and the most quickly spreading and therefore most dangerous, melanoma. Limiting sun exposure as a child and wearing sunscreen and protective clothing as an adult may help prevent some skin cancers from developing. But remember, skin cancers are very common and can develop at any time; so check in with your primary care physician and dermatologist regularly.
Q: Does diet really matter where cancer is concerned?
A: There are thousands of articles, studies and books on this subject, all promoting various diets or supplements that claim to either prevent or treat cancer. While this makes for interesting reading, it is difficult to truly prove – or disprove – a diet or life style that can truly prevent cancer. However experts do agree that moderate exercise combined with eating a healthy, balanced diet rich in whole grains, fruits, anti-oxidant vegetables is one way to improve your overall health.
