Assistance League of Diablo Valley Auxiliaries Will Participate in Make a Difference Day!

This month the Assisteens® Auxiliary of Diablo Valley will join thousands of Assistance League® members across the nation to participate in this philanthropic event.  Assisteens is an auxiliary of Assistance League of Diablo Valley whose membership consists of teens in grades 7-12 attending area schools. They raise funds to support their six philanthropic programs, most notably, Holiday Parties for disadvantaged youth. In addition, they learn the value of volunteerism and giving back to their communities at an

early age.

Assistance League has chosen literacy as the theme for participation.  Assisteens will be collecting new, paperback books to present to the Buena Vista Auxiliary Tutorial Program Chairman on October 27th, Make a Difference Day.

The Buena Vista Auxiliary Tutorial Program provides identified second grade students with 16 tutorial sessions, after which they are hosted at a celebration party. Donated books will be distributed to students who have completed the tutorial program. The celebration parties are the
highlight for the children and their families.  Imagine the enjoyment the donated books will give to these children, who have worked to improve their reading skills!

Additionally, Assisteens will be collecting new paperback books on October 20th at Barnes and Noble in Walnut Creek, to be distributed at their Holiday Parties for
disadvantaged children.

Further information about Assisteens, Buena Vista Auxiliary and Assistance League of Diablo Valley can be found on their website at: diablovalley.assistanceleague.org

I hate sand in parks. Nice breeding area for lice, and a great place for ferrel cats to poop. IRead More can't wait for them to do the park at Arbolado.

How about you research the current ADA guidelines regarding surface materials for play areas?Read More Walnut Creek is simply acting to be in compliance. Not sure where you get the idea that wood chips are "much more dangerous". A reasonable overview of the current regulations can be found here: http://risk.utah.gov/newsletter/documents/playground_surfacing.pdf If you disagree with the regulations, please contact your representatives.
