Be Part of Supporting Children’s Literacy in Our Local Schools. Join BVA and Make a Difference While Making New Friends.

Buena Vista Auxiliary of Assistance League of Diablo Valley is a nonprofit, volunteer organization that operates the Buena Vista Tutorial Program. This is an early-intervention literacy program that has helped over 3,600 elementary school children in Contra Costa County improve their reading skills in a private, differentiated learning environment. Our members serve as liaisons to the tutors, organize celebration parties at the end of each tutoring session and give gifts of books and school supplies to students in congratulations for completing the program. Funds needed to support our program come primarily from a fall solicitation mailing, a spring fundraising event and grant awards.  Since establishing the Buena Vista Tutorial Program in 1993, Buena Vista Auxiliary has raised over $1.3 million which has provided over 29,000 hours of tutoring and 11,000 books to participants.

We are a group of women dedicated to improving children’s literacy in the community where we live. Working side by side toward this common goal, we also create a foundation for building lasting friendships among women who might otherwise never have met. Our organization is made up of business professionals, master’s students, educators, stay-at-home moms and entrepreneurs.  Everyone is assigned to a small mentor group, which helps foster friendships, as well as a working committee. Together we strategize, plan, problem solve, design, collaborate and connect.  As a part of Assistance League, a national nonprofit that last year returned over $35 million to communities across the country, we have access to vast resources and experience. Our primary goal is to improve children’s literacy in our community. In the process, we are also building a team of fabulous, interesting and dedicated women.

Buena Vista Auxiliary is a rewarding way to make a difference in the community, and an excellent way to meet new people and cultivate lasting friendships.  If you are interested in receiving more information regarding our organization, please email our Membership Chairman, Lauren Brosnan at: laurenbrosnan@gmail.com. We hope to meet you soon!

I hate sand in parks. Nice breeding area for lice, and a great place for ferrel cats to poop. IRead More can't wait for them to do the park at Arbolado.

How about you research the current ADA guidelines regarding surface materials for play areas?Read More Walnut Creek is simply acting to be in compliance. Not sure where you get the idea that wood chips are "much more dangerous". A reasonable overview of the current regulations can be found here: http://risk.utah.gov/newsletter/documents/playground_surfacing.pdf If you disagree with the regulations, please contact your representatives.
