Fewer Than 20 Percent of WCI Students Have Proof of Whooping Cough Vaccine; Without Proof, They Can't Attend School Next Year

Here is a note from Walnut Creek Intermediate Principal Kevin Collins:

There has been a very important change to California law that will impact all current WCI students who will be attending a California public school next year.  Every seventh through twelfth grader will need to show proof of receiving a Tdap (Pertussis) booster vaccine after their seventh birthday.

We recently audited all student records for our sixth and seventh graders. We found proof that less than 20 percent of our students had received the vaccine.

Students without proof of Tdap will not be allowed to attend school in August. This would be a major disruption for students, parents, and teachers.

We are asking for sixth and seventh grade families to submit proof of Tdap vaccine to our Main Office as soon as possible (by May 31) to avoid any disruption next year.  If your student has not yet received their vaccine, spring break would be a great time to get it.  We will be personally contacting families who have not submitted proof of Tdap beginning in June.

For students attending Las Lomas next year, our understanding is that they will need to show proof of Tdap vaccine during the residency verification process.

Kaiser Permanente members can view their child's Immunization Record on-line to verify if their child has already received the Tdap booster. A print-out of the KP Immunization Record is acceptable as proof of Tdap vaccination.

To view the KP Immunization Record, the parent and child must both be Kaiser Permanente members. Go to kp.org and log on. Continue to "my health manager" or "my medical record." Click "Act for a family member." Once the parent has signed up to Act as A Family Member, he or she can view the child's record. Click on "Continue to my health manager." Next, click on "My medical record", then on "My immunizations."

I hate sand in parks. Nice breeding area for lice, and a great place for ferrel cats to poop. IRead More can't wait for them to do the park at Arbolado.

How about you research the current ADA guidelines regarding surface materials for play areas?Read More Walnut Creek is simply acting to be in compliance. Not sure where you get the idea that wood chips are "much more dangerous". A reasonable overview of the current regulations can be found here: http://risk.utah.gov/newsletter/documents/playground_surfacing.pdf If you disagree with the regulations, please contact your representatives.
