Turkey Trot Brings $20,000 to Walnut Creek Schools

The Walnut Creek Education Foundation K-12 (WCEF K-12) is excited to announce that on Wednesday, January 16, FORMA Gym presented a $20,000 check to the foundation as one of four beneficiaries of the 20th Annual Turkey Trot Thanksgiving Day 5k/10k and Kid's Fun Run. PEAK Foundation, the City Wellness Challenge and the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano Counties also received checks.

This year's race registered nearly 6,000 runners from 35 different states and included runners of all ages. Approximately 300 students, families and community members from all over Walnut Creek volunteered to ensure the race was a huge success.

WCEF would like to extend a thank you from our school community to FORMA Gym owner Robert Jackson and FORMA Program Director/Race Director Bob Boos, for their dedication and commitment to this beloved and healthy Thanksgiving Day tradition that generously gives back to our students!

Thank you as well to all our families and community members who came out on Thanksgiving Day to run or volunteer. Participation in the Turkey Trot and all of WCEF's fundraising events help provide the enriching and engaging learning environments our students need to prepare them for the demands of the 21st century.

I hate sand in parks. Nice breeding area for lice, and a great place for ferrel cats to poop. IRead More can't wait for them to do the park at Arbolado.

How about you research the current ADA guidelines regarding surface materials for play areas?Read More Walnut Creek is simply acting to be in compliance. Not sure where you get the idea that wood chips are "much more dangerous". A reasonable overview of the current regulations can be found here: http://risk.utah.gov/newsletter/documents/playground_surfacing.pdf If you disagree with the regulations, please contact your representatives.
