Human Trafficking Panel Discussion: Lafayette 11/2

Learn more about human trafficking and the Junior League of Oakland-East Bay's support of California State Senate Bill 738 in a thoughtful panel discussion planned by JLOEB's Public Affairs Committee. Listen to speakers including Deputy Mayor of Oakland, Sandre Swanson; District Attorney for Contra Costa County, Chad Mahalich and Venus Rodriguez with the Oakland-based non-profit MISSSEY (Motivating, Inspiring, Supporting and Serving Sexually Exploited Youth).

Human trafficking is an estimated $32 billion-a-year global industry. After drug trafficking, human trafficking is the world’s second most profitable criminal enterprise. The United States is one of the top destination countries for trafficking in persons, and California is one of the nation’s top four destination states for trafficking human beings. Many of the victims involved are children.
