Maddie’s Fund Exceeds Goal with 8,000 Pet Adoptions

Total adoptions from Maddie’s Pet Adoption Days, held on June 1 and 2, are now close to 8,000 dogs and cats - a far cry from the original estimate of 5,000! Preliminary reports show that the San Francisco Bay Area adopted roughly 3,800 pets; New York City around 2,500; Alachua County, FL 675; Washoe County, NV, 470 and Dane County, WI 260. Maddie’s Fund founders, Dave and Cheryl Duffield will give between $5 and $7 million to participating shelters and rescues for the weekend adoptions to help them defer costs incurred in rehabilitating sick or injured animals and for overall operational expenses. “Although this amount is significantly more than we anticipated, we couldn’t be happier,” said Dave Duffield. Thanks to everyone that adopted a furry friend last weekend!
