Campaign To Help Widowed Father Surpasses $60,000

The online fundraising effort is helping Walnut Creek teacher Jeff Loving and his four adopted children

The campaign to help a Walnut Creek man who lost his wife to cancer last month has topped $60,000.

As of Thursday afternoon, the gofundme.com effort on behalf of Jeff Loving had garnered more than $64,000 in donations from more than 750 people in less than three weeks.

Early last week, it had $28,000 donations from 398 people. The original goal was $40,000, but that has been bumped up to $100,000.

Loving, a Walnut Creek Intermediate teacher, and his wife adopted four children from Ethiopia.

Brenda Loving died from cancer on Nov. 9.

As word spread of her death, former students of Loving organized the online fundraising effort.

In addition, proceeds from an alumni basketball game last week at Las Lomas High were donated to the Loving family.
