John Muir Health Donates $25,000 to Food Bank

The health care service with centers in Walnut Creek and Concord has gifted funds to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

Representatives from the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano say they are "extremely grateful" for a $25,000 donation from Walnut Creek-based John Muir Health in time to help feed hungry families this holiday season.

“This funding will enable our Food Bank to provide 50,000 meals right here in our community where the need is greater than ever before," said Larry Sly, executive director of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, as quoted in a press release from John Muir Health.

The $25,000 will be spent supporting the Food Bank’s efforts to reduce levels of malnutrition in the area by providing access to food items such as fresh produce, whole grains and ingredients for healthy family meals.

John Muir Health employees have also been participating in a holiday food drive to support the Food Bank, according to a press release. Since making its first holiday donation in 2008 at the suggestion of an employee, John Muir Health has contributed more than $200,000 to the Food Bank, according to the health services provider.

“This donation and the food drive reflect the generosity of our doctors, staff and volunteers who are committed to helping the members of our community,” said Alice Villanueva, senior vice president of Human Resources at John Muir Health, as quoted in the press release. “As a community partner, we are pleased to be able to help make this holiday season a little brighter for those in need.”
