Announcement from the Walnut Creek Police Department:

On Tuesday, August 5, neighborhoods throughout Walnut Creek are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “31th Annual National Night Out” crime/drug prevention event.

National Night Out (NNO) is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Walnut Creek Police Department and your Neighborhood Watch Groups.

National Night Out involves over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, and Canada.

In all, over 34 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime” on August 5th.

NNO is designed to:
1) Heighten crime and drug awareness;
2) Generate support for, and participation in, our Neighborhood Watch Programs and other anti-crime efforts;
3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and Police-Community relations and
4) Send a message to criminals letting them know our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime!

From 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM, on August 5, residents in neighborhoods throughout Walnut Creek are asked to lock your doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outdoors on porches, lawns, and front steps, with neighbors, and police officers.

All of our Neighborhood Watch groups are encouraged to plan special events, such as pot-lucks, block parties, ice cream socials, and the like.

Walnut Creek Police Department representatives will be visiting neighborhoods during that time, helping you light up the city.

Please mark your calendars for Tuesday, August 5, 5:30PM.

If you plan to have something special in your neighborhood, please let us know no later than Thursday, August 1, so we can be sure to stop by.

If you have any questions regarding this event please contact Lt. Bryan Hill, Crime at 925-256-3592 or bhill@walnutcreekpd.com.
