The Week Ahead: School/City Meeting, Singing Tarzan, Crystal Fair

Some of the activities and meetings happening this week in the Walnut Creek area

On Monday night, the Walnut Creek City Council and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District board of education will hold a joint study session.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the multi-use room at Walnut Acres Elementary School, 180 Cerezo Drive in Walnut Creek.

The purpose is to exchange information on items of mutual interest and potential partnership.

Also on Monday night, the city's Park, Recreation and Open Space Commission will meet.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the City Council chambers, 1666 N. Main St.

On the agenda is the annual reports on the Boundary Oak Golf Course and the tennis program.

On Wednesday evening, the Mt. Diablo Unified School District board will hold its regular meeting.

It begins at 7:30 p.m. in the school district board room, 1936 Carlotta Drive in Concord.

On the agenda is a public hearing on the draft initial study for the proposed aquatic center at Northgate High School. 

Also on Wednesday evening, a Rossmoor author will speak at 6:30 p.m. at the Walnut Creek Library, 1644 N. Broadway.

Joan Visser will discuss her children's book, "Angel Messages."

On Friday evening, "Tarzan -- The Stage Musical" will open at 8 p.m. at the Lesher Center for the Arts, 1601 Civic Drive.

On Saturday morning, the Walnut Creek Police Department will hold its Second Saturday Spotlight.

The event begins at 9 a.m. at City Hall.

The purpose is for the public to meet the police department's men and women and find out more about how they do their job.

On Saturday afternoon, the Great Contra Costa Crystal Fair will be held  at Civic Park Community Center, 1375 Civic Drive.

The fair begins at 1 p.m. It will also be held on Sunday.

More than 35 vendors with beads, crystals, minerals and jewelry will be on hand.
