Wood Duck Boxes in Downtown Walnut Creek Are Working!

Ducklings have hatched and are swimming with their mama in Walnut Creek, thanks to the wood duck-breeding boxes installed downtown.

The Mount Diablo Audubon Society, in partnership with California Wood Duck Program, installed wood duck boxes along downtown Walnut Creek’s wooded creeks to try to recover the wood duck population.

The two attached photos, from one of the project's coordinators Brian Murphy, show wood duck hens incubating eggs.

"It is exciting," he added, "to have native ducks of our creeks breeding downtown Walnut Creek."
