Bassist's New Band Plays Walnut Creek
Newsted is the the new band of Walnut Creek resident Jason Newsted, formerly the bassist of Metallica.
Walnut Creek heavy metal, bass-guitar legend Jason Newsted and his new band called Newsted are playing new tunes (and some old Metallica covers) this weekend.
It's Newsted's "first official gigs" tonight and Saturday night at the Red House, 1667 Botelho Dr., Walnut Creek, loudwire.com reports.
The Red House website reported at 4:30 p.m. Friday that tonight's gig was sold out, but tickets remain for Saturday. It's a $20 ticket for an 8 p.m. show.

Jason Newsted, the former bassist of Metallica and with Ozzy Osbourne, announced his new band Newsted last fall with drummer Jesus Mendez Jr., guitarist Jessie Farnsworth and, announced more recently, guitarist Mike Mushok.
The Jason Newsted Fan Page on Facebook has an audio file of a Newsted song, "King of the Underdogs." One Newsted fan comments, "awesome big stumpy riffage."
