Diablo Theatre Company Will Present the East Bay Premiere Of ‘Legally Blonde’ Plus Encores of Two Family Favorites

The Walnut Creek-based theater company presents a season highlighted stage versions of beloved Hollywood films, including 'The Wizard of Oz' and 'White Christmas.'

Diablo Theatre Company's 2011-12 season will feature the East Bay premiere of the Broadway hit Legally Blonde The Musical and encore performances of two family favorites, The Wizard of Oz and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.

Legally Blonde will begin Feb. 10 and continue for 14 performances through March 3. The show is based on the 2001 Reese Witherspoon movie of the same name. It had its pre-Broadway tryout in San Francisco in 2007 before opening in New York, where it earned seven Tony Award nominations

Oz will open Sept. 9 for 17 performances through Oct. 1. Diablo Theatre Company produced Oz, which is based on the 1939 Judy Garland MGM film classic, in 2003 under its former name, The Diablo Light Opera Company.

The show’s popularity encouraged the company to present an encore.  The FUNKMODE Performance Company, a Pleasant Hill-based modern and hip-hop dance troupe, will choreograph the production.

White Christmas, based on the 1954 Bing Crosby holiday film classic, played to sold-out audiences last year. It will run Nov. 25 to Dec. 4 for 13 performances.
