Chevron Family Theatre Festival

The fifth annual Chevron Family Theatre Festival brings nationally renowned performers to Walnut Creek

Festival includes performances in the Lesher Center for the Arts’ three theaters, outdoor activities, entertainment and food

WALNUT CREEK   — The City of Walnut Creek, Lesher Center for the Arts (LCA), the Diablo Regional Arts Association and Chevron have come together to welcome the community to a day of affordable, high quality family entertainment. The fifth annual Chevron Family Theatre Festival on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., will provide a day for families to come together to experience nationally renowned performers such as theater groups The Pushcart Players performing Little Red Riding Hood and Other Stories and Fantasy Forum performing The Crimson Pirate.  The festival will include exciting musical performances from Rude Dog Duo, Juice Box Heros and PapaHugs. Many free events for families will be part of the festival, including puppet making, face painting, Mother Goose Storytelling and character dress-up.

Thanks to the generosity of Chevron and sponsors including the City of Walnut Creek, Diablo Regional Arts Association, KGO Radio, Xfinity, the Contra Costa Times, Diablo Magazine,, the LCA’s three theatres and lobbies, as well as surrounding outdoor areas and streets will be used to showcase professional, high-quality family theatre performances and activities. Tickets for performances are on sale now and are $5/each.  Tickets can be purchased in advance at LesherARTSCenter.org, by calling 925.943.SHOW, or in-person at the Lesher Center Box Office. A schedule of performances is available at www.LesherARTScenter.org/chevronfamilytheatrefestival. In addition to the theatrical performances, an array of free activities, booths and entertainment will surround the outside of the LCA. Walnut Creek Mayor Cindy Silva and Chevron General Manager of Corporate Public Policy Linda Padon will serve as honorary co-chairs.

“There is a real demand for quality family entertainment in this area and the Chevron Family Theatre Festival brings it all together in one place on one spectacular day,” said Padon. “Chevron is proud to be a founding partner of this event, which gives families and the community an affordable, festive day of healthy, positive fun.”

Last year’s festival attracted 6,000 guests and this year’s event is expected to be even more successful. “Ashland has Shakespeare, Sundance has films, Walnut Creek has the Chevron Family Theatre Festival,” said Scott Denison, Lesher Center general manager. “This one-of-a-kind event promises to become a staple of Bay Area family theatre for years to come.”
