The Bedford Gallery wraps up a memorable 2010-11 season with Outlandish, an intriguing exhibition that looks at landscape from a variety of vantage points in all media. From the micro to the macro, artists in Outlandish explore themes ranging from a tiny speck of a garden to a global view. The show is part national juried exhibition and part invitational. Alison Gass, Assistant Curator of Painting and Sculpture at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, selected 62 artists from around the country for the juried segment and there is over $2,000 awarded in prizes generously contributed by the Bedford Gallery Guild, Bedford Docent Council, Arch Drafting & Graphic Supply, Artist and Craftsman Supply, Cheap Pete's, Flax Art and Design, Gamblin Artists Colors Co., Golden Artist Colors, Liquitex Artist Materials, Utrecht Art Supplies, Contemporary Jewish Museum, Museum of Craft and Folk Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Outlandish Invitational was curated by Bedford Gallery Curator Carrie Lederer. Lederer says. “Outlandish is part invitational and part national juried show, and combines two distinct curatorial visions,” There are bound to be some surprises. We received over 600 artist submissions from all four corners of the U.S. including, Vermont, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Washington, Oregon, Montana, California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Texas, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida - this bodes for an exciting show.”

The gallery will host a one-night terrarium building workshop at the July 7 opening, led by artists Yvette Molina and Sarah Filley. The artist team created the Wonderarium Mobile Plant Ambassador, a push cart packed with plants, dirt, tiny shovels and spray bottles. During the workshop, visitors can shovel a bit of dirt into a container and create their own mini-terrarium to take home from the Wonderarium.
