R.U.R. is a science fiction play by Karel Čapek. It premiered in 1921 and first introduced the word “robot” to the English language. R.U.R., standing for Rossum’s Universal Robots, describes a world in which genetically engineered robots work alongside humans. The show debates the necessity and worth of consciousness and what it truly means to feel emotions.
