Who says you can't build a ballet by Twitter?
This week Diablo Ballet is compiling the suggestions that came in by Twitter pitching ideas for the first professional dance production constructed entirely from ideas by Internet users.
From "how about no women being thrown around by men?" to moves with "subtlety" not "freakish flexibility " — Diablo Ballet has some tweets to consider in choreographing the ballet.
Valentine's Day was the last day for submissions via Diablo Ballet's Twitter hash tag, #DiabloWebBallet.
Participants are also voting on three potential music selections at Diablo Ballet's YouTube page.
For the Twitter suggestions, it's now up to Diablo Ballet Artistic Director Lauren Jonas and choreographer Robert Dekkers to pick seven choreographic suggestions. Dekker, a dancer with Diablo Ballet, is artistic director of San Francisco's Post:Ballet.
"We want to show people the creative process of dance and help make ballet accessible to all," said Dan Meagher, director of marketing for Diablo Ballet, in a press release. Meagher developed the Web Ballet idea.
The Web Ballet will be presented as part of Diablo Ballet's Inside the Dancer's Studio series March 1 and 2 at the Shadelands Arts Center Auditorium in Walnut Creek. The winning suggestions will receive tickets to the performance and a photo from the created work, autographed by Dekkers.
