This is one of those tunes that lives just under the skin, one we're always holding close without even knowing it. Van Morrison, though a star, is still one of the most underrated songwriters around. His best songs tend to span multiple generations.
"Into the Mystic" is a lot of things to a lot of people. Just as "Brown Eyed Girl" is familiar to women 12-75 years old, "Into the Mystic" has that same eternal quality. It is romantic without being sappy. It is gentle and yet tough. It makes sense, until you take it apart and begin looking at it.
