Credit Card Skimmers Found in Walnut Creek Gas Stations

If you bought gas at the Chevron station on Ygnacio Valley Rd. and N. Main St. on Tuesday, or at the Valero station on Ygnacio Valley Rd. on Tuesday or Wednesday, police are advising you to monitor your credit card purchases.

Credit card skimming devices were discovered on pumps at both of those stations, according to Walnut Creek police. A clerk discovered a device at the Chevron station on Tuesday, and another was found on Wednesday at the Valero station.

Skimming devices are installed by thieves inside the credit card readers of gas pumps. Credit card information is then transmitted to those who use the information to charge goods and services to the hijacked cards. Police say both skimmers were of similar make and design, and were probably installed by the same people.

Both stations have surveillance cameras and police will be examining video from the stations Police are asking patrons of these stations who saw any suspicious subjects tampering with the pumps to contact the department a (925) 943-5844. They also request that anyone seeing a suspicious person tampering with a gas pump notify the police immediately.
