Tax Fairness Protesters Picket Post Office

On the last day to file federal taxes, sixty 99 Percent demonstrators line the sidewalk.

It was tax day in Walnut Creek, and the Move On protesters pressed their plea for fairness at the central post office on North Broadway.

Led by Karen Beck of Danville in a cheerleader's uniform with a bullhorn, they chanted,
"Don't cut teachers, don't cut cops
Collect the taxes from the top."

Beck thanked motorists pulling out of the post office parking lot for paying their fair share of taxes.

There were about 60 protesters there at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday on the sidewalk in front of the post office. It was a "99 Percenter National Day of Action" for the MoveOn organization on the last day to file federal taxes. The demonstration honored those who pay their taxes and don't seek tax dodges. There were rallies around the country, including Castro Valley, Oakland, San Rafael and Santa Rosa.

Some signs at the rally:
I am the 99 percent. I can't afford a lobbyist.
Thanks for paying your fair share, unlike the 1 percent who are not patriotic.
I pay a 13.9 percent tax rate (with a photo of Mitt Romney).

The weekly Occupy Walnut Creek protest that has been in action for more than half a year is scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Diablo Boulevard and Main Street.
