Bally's Total Fitness in Pleasant Hill Closes Abruptly

Lease was reportedly terminated with a day's notice.

The sweat was barely dry on some workout maven brows, and now the Bally's Total Fitness in Pleasant Hill is closed.

It closed as of 9 p.m. Tuesday, Patch reader David Pearson notified us on the Walnut Creek Patch Facebook page. Thanks, David. (Did you know we have a Facebook page?)

The landlord terminated the lease with a day's notice, according to a letter to Bally members, as reported in the Claycord blog.

Forma Gym in Walnut Creek is also offering a 21 Day trial membership to their club in Walnut Creek. I went to the club today after coming to workout at Ballys and it looked really great. Maybe something good will come out of this and it will re-motivate me to start working out again! If you go to their website you can register for the 21 Day Free membership. Thanks Forma! www.formagym.com P.S. I did their TRX class this evening and I am hooked1

Bally's management knew since June 2010 that the landlord planned an eviction. This business about being given one day's notice is just plain false. Here's a link to the Contra Costa Times story that explains everything: http://bit.ly/oXBksN I was a month-to-month Bally's member when I left in early July; however, if I had signed a single-club membership contract in the recent past, I would stop all bank drafts and send Bally's a certified letter, return receipt requested, with my membership card enclosed terminating my membership. Clearly, management had actual notice that an eviction was coming. If the company allowed employees to continue selling single-club memberships (or fitness class contracts, for that matter), that's certainly dishonest and would be worth fighting in court as a fraud claim.
