Baseball Fans Line Up For Trophy Photos

Giants Dugout Store opening: More than 300 in line to get their pictures taken with the 2010 World Series trophy.

A line of more than 300 people went down South Main Street and rounded the corner onto Olympic Boulevard and into a parking lot for Saturday's grand opening of the San Francisco Giants Dugout Store in Walnut Creek.

The people in line got their pictures taken with the Giants 2010 World Series trophy. Some of the lucky ones had a chance to say hi to Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper and Hall of Famer Willie McCovey. After greeting the public, McCovey headed for lunch at the restaurant that bears his name on North California Boulevard.

Two women from Oakley arrived at 8:00 a.m., two hours before the grand opening, and got in around 10:30 to get their picture taken with the trophy.

Asked who her favorite player is, Moriah Padilla said, "So far it's Buster Posey. (Pablo) Sandoval, too." Both Padilla and Racheal Gonzalez said they went to the San Francisco parade in November 2010 after the Giants won the World Series and ruled the baseball world.

"I've been a fan since I was four," said Padilla, who is 23.

Besides the line to get the photo with the trophy, fans were in the store looking for holiday gifts. I was even tempted by the $89 argyll shorts in orange, black and cream.

Full disclosure: The writer is a Giants fan. Humm baby.
