Downtown Boutique Owner Retiring, Closing Up Shop

The owner of Liliana Castellanos wants to spend more time being a grandmother

Irene Needoba has a new job -- being a grandmother.

So, she's retiring from her current job -- the owner of Liliana Castelllanos boutique in downtown Walnut Creek.

The shop has been at 1414 N. Main St. for the past six years, but it'll close its doors at the end of November.

The clothing boutique is in the midst of a two-month going out of business sale. Many items in the store are now 30 percent off. Customers who spend more than $500 get another 10 percent off.

Needoba's husband Rick was running the store on Monday because his wife was babysitting their new 8-month-old grandson.

Rick Needoba, who still works part time in the environmental industry, said the store's sales have been flat since 2008, so he and his wife thought this would be a good time to retire.

"We wanted to simplify things," he said.

Plus, his wife wanted to spend more time with their working daughter's infant son.

"She figured that was a better job than the one she's doing now," he said.
