SF Giants Dugout Store Digs In To WC

Soft opening for South Main Street store is Black Friday; grand opening with Willie McCovey is Dec. 3.

Get your Lincecum on. Your Wilson. Your Panda. Your Cain.

And, most importantly for Walnut Creek, your Willie McCovey.

You can buy gear sporting those names at the Giants dugout store, coming to South Main Street, across the street from the Crate and Barrel store in Broadway Plaza. The soft opening is Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

Willie McCovey, retired Giants baseball hall of famer,
is in the lineup to make an appearance at the grand opening, set for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3. McCovey lends his name to a popular downtown Walnut Creek restaurant.

The 2010 World Series trophy will grace the store for the occasion, too.

Ticketed for the grand opening, according to the Giants website, are broadcaster Duane Kuiper of Danville, exec Larry Baer, mascot Lou Seal and special guests. There will be live entertainment and activities for the family.

The design of the store mimics features of AT&T Park in San Francisco, said Hilary Hubbard, architect on the project from Hubbard Godfrey Architects in San Francisco. There are bricks, green arches and the look of the wood used in the stands and the field itself, said Hubbard.

Full disclosure: The editor of Walnut Creek Patch is a Giants fan. Humm baby.
