Grand Opening For New Coffee Shop Next To City Hall

Kaffa Cafe now operating in the space that used to house Sax Coffee Bistro

The old saying goes that you can't fight City Hall.

But in Walnut Creek, you can serve coffee and scones next to it.

The Kaffa Cafe has been operating for four months in the building on Main Street that used to house the Sax Coffee Bistro.

A grand opening for Kaffa will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce is the host.

Kaffa Cafe owner Sahar Mahmoud has never owned a business before, but she does have a business degree and worked for years in her family's chain of restaurants outside of the Bay Area.

Mahmoud said the cafe is trying to differentiate itself by serving freshly ground direct trade coffee. They also have pastries and deli sandwiches.

New furniture has been moved in and the cafe still has the room in the back for those who want a little more quiet.

Mahmoud said she really likes Walnut Creek and where her cafe sits.

"It's a great location," she said. "Walnut Creek is beautiful."
