Kinder's Plans Market on Parkside Drive

Second location in Walnut Creek would be the 16th restaurant/deli of the franchise.

A new Kinder's Meats & Deli restaurant —with meat market, deli, catering and retail offerings such as barbecue sauces and marinades — is aiming for a second Walnut Creek location at 1293 Parkside Dr.

The opening could come as early as late July or early August, said Justin Kinder of the Kinder family, which has headquarters in Concord. The setting of a date awaits approval of restaurant plans by the city of Walnut Creek, Kinder wrote in an email.

It will be the 16th Kinder's location, and the seventh owned by the family. The rest are franchised locations, Kinder said. Most locations are in the Bay Area, but also as far away as Chico and Reno.

The first Walnut Creek location is in Ygnacio Valley Plaza. "Our Ygnacio location was a success and continues to grow," Kinder said. "We had an opportunity to take over the Parkside location about the same time we were receiving negative feedback from our customers regarding parking at our existing Walnut Creek site as well as requests to have a location closer to Main Street."

The enterprise started with John Kinder opening a meat market in San Pablo in 1946.
