Lazy Dog Cafe Coming to Concord

The restaurant chain will wag its tail in its first Northern California location in the Willow Pass Shopping Center this fall at the site of the former El Torito Mexican restaurant.

Lazy Dog Cafe is bringing "the small-town hospitality of the Rocky Mountains" to Concord this fall, with a casual restaurant and bar designed for laid-back patrons — and their canines too.

The Concord Lazy Dog will feature a cabin-style design, flat-screen TVs for sports, an "extensive selection of craft beers and trend-setting cocktails, dog-friendly outdoor patio, and community-oriented philosophy." It will be the company's 13th location and its first in Northern California.

Lazy Dog owner Chris Simms started the chain 10 years ago in Huntington Beach in Southern California, inspired by the rustic comfort of the Rocky Mountains.

"It feels very fitting to be opening our first Northern California restaurant in Concord during this landmark year for us," said Simms in a statement. "We look forward to becoming part of the community and building relationships with local breweries and organizations in the area."

The Concord restaurant will offer an "evolving" menu of "modern flavors" like Spicy Moroccan Chicken and Cous Cous and "familiar tastes," like the BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger. Specialty brunch dishes like Wild Blueberry Pancakes & Maple Bacon Butter and Chilaquiles will be served on weekends.

Drink options include cocktails and craft beers from local breweries.

Here's what Lazy Dog is saying about the Concord location:

The design of the Concord outpost will feature rustic decor and accents such as cozy fireplaces and a massive chandelier crafted from Aspen logs, generous use of real ledge stone, and fabric- and leather-lined booths and chairs featuring rich hues of chocolate and rust. Artwork and playful touches inspired by man’s best friend will be woven throughout the 7,818 square foot space, and a 1,322 square foot dog-friendly patio with ample seating and fire pits will be built adjacent to the restaurant. Both the bar and exterior patio will be outfitted with multiple flatscreen TV's for guests to cheer on their favorite sports teams while enjoying a meal or craft beer.
