Rubi Aims to Take Vending Machine Coffee to Gourmet Heights

The company has a kiosk at the Tice Valley Road Safeway. Have you tried it?

According to at least one poll, the Bay Area is one of the most caffeinated places on the globe. So it's no wonder there is a plethora of coffee shops, from national chains to small mom-and-pops.

As the coffee craze has grown, so has the demand for high-end drinks like lattes and mochas. But ordering a custom coffee can take time. And if you're caffeinated, you don't have time to wait.

Enter the Rubi. Brought to you by Outerwall, the same folks who gave the world the Coinstar machine and Redbox DVD rentals, the Rubi offers coffee drinkers the ability to have a customized cup of coffee in a minute.

It grinds the beans, puts those through a French press, and filters that into the waiting cup. All for a dollar or more, according to a release from the company.

There is a Rubi machine installed at the Tice Valley Road Safeway.

Have you tried the Rubi yet? What did you think?
