What’s Going In Next Door to Cheesecake Factory? A Clothing Shop Your Fashion-Forward Teen Son and Daugher Will Like

Tilly's is a Southern California-based chain that is riding the wave of youth fashion outlets that sell casual clothing inspired by the surf and skateboard look.

Walnut Creek Patch has received word from the City of Walnut Creek that the new retailer going into the 7,200-square-foot space in Plaza Escuela, next door to Cheesecake Factory, is Tilly's. This Southern California-based retailer is one of a number riding the wave of youth-oriented fashion outlets inspired by the West Coast surf and skateboard lifestyle.

Victoria Walker, city planning manager, says that Tilly's should be open in time for the holidays. 

Tilly's describes itself as "the hot chain store" that sells the most sought-out west-coast lifestyle clothing, shoes, and accessories. Beginning with its first store in 1982 in Los Alamitos, California, Tilly's offers a wide assortment of brands such as Volcom, RVCA, Billabong, LRG, Hurley, FOX, DC and Infamous catering to today's active youth culture.

It now operates more than 110 stores throughout California, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Delaware, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey and Virginia.

Tilly's said it offers a large-store format to provide "an unparalleled assortment of merchandise catering to a wide demographic." The shop "carries a wide assortment of the world's best brands under one roof and is a one-stop shop."

Tilly's said its customers wants more than clothes: they want the lifestyle Tilly's offers. "Our customer embodies that southern California active lifestyle including skate, moto, bmx, snow and surf."

Tilly says it "connects with its customer through strategic partnerships with our brands." It tries to be community minded by engaging in "extensive community relations efforts with emphasis on schools surrounding our stores."
