Former Diablo View Teacher Sued By Student He Molested

The teacher is serving time for having sexual relations with her while the girl was in high school.

A woman, now 18 years old, who says a middle school teacher had sexual relations with her while she was still in high school has filed a lawsuit against the teacher and the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The suit seeks damages against Diablo View Middle School teacher Andrew Cotrell. The woman, who is now 18, says Cotrell first established a relationship with her while she was a student of his. He made romantic advances to her when she was a high school student, and his babysitter, the lawsuit alleges.

Cotrell was arrested in 2011, tried and found guilty last year, and is presently serving nine years in prison.

The woman is seeking a minimum of $25,000 for emotional distress, physical and psychological damages.
