Fund Set Up to Help Family of Teen Drowning Victim

Prior to the death of Gavin Powell, his family was already dealing with financial stress due to illness, medical bills and unemployment.

Friends of the family of Gavin Powell, the Las Lomas High student who died in a rafting accident last weekend, have set up a fund to help the family pay for expenses related to his memorial service and other living costs.

Here is a note sent out by friends, with information about how to donate:

You have by now have probably heard of the tragic deaths of two Los Lomas teens, Matt Miller and Gavin Powell who drowned in Walnut Creek on February 20.  They were both wonderful, smart, funny and kind kids.  Their deaths are devastating for both their families and the Los Lomas student body.  As we pause to consider the fleetingness of our lives, our blessings and our strengths as individuals and as a community, please consider helping one of these families, the Powells.

Prior to their son Gavin's death, the Powells, were already under severe duress due to a myriad of circumstances, including unemployment, illness and medical costs.  At present they are struggling to grapple with reality of losing their child as well the pre-existing financial stress--both unbelievably hard and heart-wrenching.  If your situation allows, please consider making a donation to this family.  They need support for many things, including memorial expenses and on-going living expenses.
