By now you've heard -- a major storm is making its way to the Bay Area over the next five days, and with it comes what some are calling a river of rain.
While it may not turn out to be the deluge some fear, it's best to be prepared. Make sure your tires are in good shape, your umbrella is handy, and your windows are closed.
And if you're in an area that is prone to flooding, sandbags are a good idea. But where do you go to find them? After all, shopping season or no, sandbags are not something you generally find on Aisle 9.
Fear not - there are a total of four sandbag station throughout Walnut Creek. And the bags are free, as is the sand. However, you'll need to bring your own shovel.
The sandbag stations are:
- Lancaster Road across from Orchard Lane
- Heather Farm Park Community Center parking lot
- Larkey Park parking lot
- Howe Homestead Park parking lot
All locations are accessible 24 hours a day.
According to city staff, some of the problem areas in times of heavy rain include Lancaster Road, and, in extreme conditions, Eccleston Avenue.
