Hey! Where's the Snow?!

Cold rolls in overnight but the snow doesn't come along with it. Mostly sunny skies today.

It was more of a snow job by Mother Nature.

Cold temperatures blanketed the Bay Area overnight, but there was no snow on the ground Saturday morning as widely predicted all week long.

Forecasters had said the snow level would drop to 2,300 feet Friday morning and perhaps dip as low as 500 feet by Saturday morning.

There was rain overnight Friday, but there wasn't even a drop of precipitation during the wee hours of Saturday morning.

Peaks such as Mount Diablo, the Las Trampas Hills and the hills along Castro Valley and San Leandro were green this morning, not white.

"The cold air arrived, but the moisture didn't," said CBS 5 weekend weathercaster Jim Bernard.

Bernard said cold air doesn't hold moisture as well as warm air. When the frigid air reached the Bay Area Friday night, the weather system just didn't follow.

Instead, it slid down the coast, dropping a few inches of snow on the Santa Cruz Mountains. Bernard expects the weather system to come ashore somewhere around the Los Angeles basin, perhaps bringing snow there.

For the Bay Area, it's expected to be mostly sunny today with another night of cold temperatures. Bernard said residents should expect a "hard freeze" in the inland areas.

Tomorrow's weather is forecast to be much the same as today.
