Person Killed by Train at 12th Street BART Station

BART service in the East Bay is affected Wednesday morning.

A person was struck and killed by a train at the 12th Street/Oakland City Center BART station Wednesday morning, a BART spokeswoman said.

A Richmond-bound train struck the person on the tracks along Platform 3 at about 9:10 a.m., spokeswoman Alicia Trost said. She did not have details on how the person got on the tracks or whether the victim was a man or woman.

Trains bound for Richmond and Pittsburg/Bay Point are passing through the station without stopping. Riders are advised to use the 19th Street station instead. However, trains headed to San Francisco and Fremont are still making stops at the 12th Street station, Trost said.
