"Slacking" On A Summer Day

Two Las Lomas High graduates show off their slackline abilities on a lazy summer afternoon in Civic Park.

Two Walnut Creek teens found that 45 feet of nylon and two trees could provide them with plenty of summer entertainment in Civic Park.

Jake Russell, 19, and Gus Gregory, 18, 2010 graduates of Las Lomas High School, were walking a fine line Monday afternoon.

The line was a slackline they had stretched between two trees at the grassy park.

They took turns walking along the thin stretch of nylon about a foot off the ground.

Russell and Gregory said they do the activity for fun, but it's also a good way to strengthen the tendons and muscles.

The friends bought the slackline three months ago at an REI outlet for $75.

They say they're getting good use out of the purchase. It also helps them with other hobbies, including snowboarding and longboard skateboarding.
