Street of Candlelight Pops Up Again on Christmas Eve

A residential court in Walnut Creek once again lines the sidewalk with paper bags and candles

As it does every Christmas Eve, Rockcreek Court in Walnut Creek became an avenue of lights.

As night fell Monday, residents on the short street off Walnut Avenue placed paper bags with lighted candles inside along the entire sidewalk of their neighborhood.

More than 100 lighted bags glowed for drivers and pedestrians to see as they went by the quiet court.

The tradition has been going on for years.

Every year on Christmas Eve my son and I head over to Menlo park to spend time with our family. We head home about 11pm, looking for Santa most the way... And when we get close to home at midnight, we anxiously warch for this beautiful little street lined with glowing paperbags. I grew up in the willow glen part of San Jose, where people drove miles to see the dozens of streets with Xmas trees on their lawns. We may not have that in wc, but the street lined with these bags is something my son is sure to remember. I love the look and have really enjoyed their yearly tradition.

San Jose cannot compare with Walnut Creek! Go to the house in the Valle Verde school district where they are competing for $100,000 in a national contest.
