Walnut Creek Patch Columnist Wins Award

Donna Lynn Rhodes was honored for a column that looks at how social media is transformation our interactions with other people.

Off the Beaten Patch columnist Donna Lynn Rhodes won a second-place honor for her column at the East Bay Press Club's 2010 journalism awards.

The awards were handed out Friday night. She was among other Bay Area journalists honored in such categories as news reporting, investigative reporting, feature writing and technology writing.

Rhodes' column, published in December, looks at how Facebook has made her life better in some ways but questions what it really means to "friend" someone and whether we are relying on social media to make up for the loss of personal contact with people.
