Borchardt Announces She Won't Run For Re-Election To Walnut Creek School Board

The three-term incumbent says she wants to focus more on her family and her career

Angela Borchardt has announced she will not seek another term to the Walnut Creek School District board of education.

Borchardt told her fellow trustees at Tuesday night's meeting that she will not seek re-election.

Borchardt was appointed to the board in 2003 and then won elections in 2004, 2006 and 2010.

Borchardt told Patch she had worked part-time for 15 years before accepting a full-time job two years.

"I think it's important now for me to focus on my family and my career," she said.

Borchardt said the school board will be dealing with a lot of changes this year as well as into the near future.

There is a new funding formula for education in California as well as new curriculum standards.

In addition, Walnut Creek schools are near capacity and the district needs to figure out how to deal with the growing school-age population. The board voted Tuesday night to hire a firm to do an enrollment study.
