Veterans Day Program

Air Force Captain David Yuers will be the keynote speaker at the city's Veterans Day celebration beginning at 11am at the Lesher Center for the Arts.

The Veterans Day ceremony will include a welcome from Walnut Creek Mayor Bob Simmons, a musical concert of patriotic songs including a salute to all the branches of the Armed Forces by the Walnut Creek Concert Band under the direction of Harvey Benstein; and an Honor Guard.

The Veterarns Day program will include stories from families who are serving or have served in the military.

Captain Yuers moved to Walnut Creek in 1999 after completing his degree at San Francisco State University. He joined the Air Force in 1982 as an aircraft weapons chief, and the Air National Guard in 1994. From 1994 – 2004 he was stationed with the California Air National Guard’s 129th Combat Search and Rescue Wing at Moffett Federal Air Field. While with the 129th Wing, Captain Yuers trained to become an all-source intelligence analyst and worked with the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement in San Jose as an Air National Guard liaison. In 2004 Captain Yuers earned a commission in the United States Air Force Reserve, and is presently stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. When not on Reserve duty, he works for The Buffalo Group in Reston, Virginia. 
Over the years Captain Yuers has been deployed overseas on eight separate occasions. His last deployment was to Djibouti, Africa and he returned home to Walnut Creek in August. 
His decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award (with Valor) and the Operation Iraqi Freedom Campaign Medal. 

The event is free and open to the public.
