Former Minor League Player Leads Local Girls Softball Team to Nationals

Dedicating more than sixteen years of softball coaching experience, PODS® of Phoenix Manager, Hector Reyeswill be leading local fast pitch softball team, the Arizona Hornets, to USSSA 2014 World Series on July 28th through August 3rd in West Covina, Calif.

A former minor league player himself, Reyes has recognized the importance for youth to have an advantage in the recruiting process for colleges. Recruiting athletes begins as young as the age of 13; with 40 percent of colleges giving verbal consent by the time the player is a sophomore in High School.

Reyes established the fast pitch Arizona club softball team back in 2008 and since then has helped 26 young women receive softball scholarships to various colleges across the country. The Hornets have had a successful season ranking as one of the top three teams statewide for its
14-and-under age group. The team recently took the title at the Mother’s Day Tournament in Glendale, Calif. earlier this month.

“I organized the Hornets because I wanted these girls to have a chance to receive scholarships for college,” Reyes said. “Having the opportunity to be a part of paving their future for success, is what I aim for.”

PODS of Phoenix was inspired by Reyes’ passion, and has been the sole sponsor of the Hornets team for the past six years. Understanding that not all parents can fund their daughters to play club softball, PODS of Phoenix has provided the girls with everything from helmets, jerseys and transportation.
