Yoga for Addiction with Linda Burkhard

Addiction affects each one of us. Whether it's the "BIG 5" (alcohol, drugs, sex, money and food) or more subtle addictions to coffee, sugar, work, codependency, perfectionism--we all struggle with compulsive behaviors and the desire to avoid, distract or anesthetize uncomfortable feelings.

It is our birthright to have peace and joy in our lives. With that in mind, I have designed a series of four classes that will help those struggling with addictive and self-destructive behaviors. I will use my extensive knowledge of yoga philosophy and yoga therapy (yoga poses, meditation, breathing and visualization techniques, to name just a few) to guide students through the best practices in mind, body, and spiritual techniques being used to treat addiction in clinics and hospitals across the country.

Whether you are new to recovery, already involved in a program, or are dealing with day-to-day stress, this program will benefit you greatly. You will learn breathing practices to ease anxiety and depression and help with sleep, practice yoga poses to help ease digestion and elimination, and learn how to relax and settle nervous tension.

We will follow steps based on the chakras, a system to create a map of the energy fields in the body, to begin to heal physical discomforts that tend to accumulate from emotional stress. Concepts around these steps that we will follow together on this four-week journey to heal are:

Week 1: Consciousness. What do you long for? Waking up to change. Creating your plan. Applying wisdom and strategy. Your vision.
Week 2: Communication. Verbalize your intent to yourself and to others. Speaking your truth.
Week 3: Strength. Developing courage, strength and willpower to move forward into your new life.
Week 4: Relationships. Developing your support system. Building your foundation. Live the life you've aspired to have.

$80 for 4 weeks.
This class meets 4 consecutive Sundays.
