Do You Think Interstate 680 Is Too Dangerous?

There seems to be a wave of accidents happening on Interstate 680, with two more happening this morning. Do you think the freeway has become too dangerous? Let us know in the comments section.

If you were headed from the San Ramon Valley to Walnut Creek and Concord Friday morning on Interstate 680, it probably wasn't a pleasant experience.

An ice cream truck overturned just north of Rudgear Road at about 7:15 a.m., blocking three lanes of traffic.

About an hour later, there was another accident near the Crow Canyon exit in San Ramon.

It's not just today. Recently there have been a number of accidents on Interstate 680.

In August, a fatal accident on an I-680 on-ramp in Pleasanton claimed the life of a 22-year-old.

About a week earlier, two people died from a fatal accident in San Ramon.

Do you think Interstate 680 is too dangerous? Do you feel safe driving on it? Is this just a bad stretch and the freeway isn't more dangerous than any other? Tell us what you think in the comments section.

I will say that there are lots of aggressive drivers on Highway 68o. Excessive speed is not a new phenomenon on that road. If folks would just slow down a bit, we'd have a lot fewer accidents.

I agree. Drivers are much too aggressive and I see numerous violations of single drivers in the lanes reserved for cars with passengers every morning. Its frustrating and very dangerous. I hate to say it but we need more police presence during the morning commute

I-680 is definitely too dangerous for a car. When I use it I take a CCCTA Express Bus from WC to Danville or San Ramon. That also saves me money, 75 cents one way, and spares-the-air (We'll have 3 straight Sapre-the-Air days today, tomorrow, and Monday.

The roadway is not dangerous per se... it's the drivers who: tailgate; are inattentive; fail to use turn signals; and, generally cut each other off. I detest those who dive bomb their exit from the far left lane at the very last moment. Be wary of me because I WILL NOT LET YOU IN. Plan ahead dorks! Agressive? No.. That's defensive driving... defending the already established queue.

I see some pretty awful driving, and I never see any of the aggressive drivers pulled over. 680 may seem a bit faster than before, but nothing beats 880.
