Group Hopes To Revive Showing Of Artistic Films

Mountain Shadow Film Society hopes to show foreign, independent films in the wake of the demolition of the CineArts theater

From the dust of the Cine Arts theater, a local group hopes to revive the showing of foreign and independent films in Central Contra Costa County.

The non-profit Mountain Shadow Film Society is hosting an informational meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22, in the Oak View Room of the downtown Walnut Creek Library.

The organization hopes to sign up at least 100 founding members, enough to pay for once-a-month showings of these films in the library's Oak View Room next year.

The screenings would include a brief introduction and, on some occasions, a discussion afterward.

The group formed in response to the demolition in May of the CineArts theater in Pleasant Hill.
