Civil War Author To Speak in Walnut Creek

Novelist Jeff Shaara will discuss the Civil War and fiction at the Lesher Center Sept. 11. His late father, Michael Shaara, wrote 'The Killer Angels,' winner of Pulitzer Prize in 1975.

A hundred and fifty years ago, armies in blue and gray were marching across Virginia (and Mississippi and Tennessee, etc.) and fighting increasingly bloody battles.

A hundred and fifty years later, the Walnut Creek library continues to commemorate the occasion by adding events to bring in the Civil War buffs. The library foundation has announced a speaking engagement by Jeff Shaara, who wrote Gods and Generals and The Last Full Measure. Those books are a prequel and a sequel to The Killer Angels, the Pulitzer-prize-winning novel by his late father, Michael Shaara. The Killer Angels will be the "One City, One Book: Walnut Creek Reads" entry this summer.  The Killer Angels is the fictionalization of the drama and psychology of the commanders on both sides of the battle of Gettysburg, Pa., in 1863.

Jeff Shaara will speak at the Lesher Center for the Arts on Tuesday, Sept. 11.
Tickets are available for $25 through Aug. 1, when the ticket price rises to $35. VIP seating that includes a private reception with Shaara is available.
