Free Day at Lindsay Wildlife Museum - Sunday, May 20, 10-5!

Come see what's still here, what's new, and what's coming up at your local hotspot for connecting with wildlife!

When I mention Lindsay Wildlife Museum to people, I often get in reply, “Oh, I used to go there as a kid! I haven’t been there for years!”  Many of us who grew up around here visited the Museum on school field trips or with our families.  I remember visiting (back when it was in “the barn” – down the hill from the present location) and looking up wide-eyed at the vultures and hawks. I’m sure I also asked, “Are they real?” - and then jumping when an owl turned its head.

Well, if you haven’t been to the Museum in a while, much has changed, although Richard the turkey vulture is still alive and well in her (yes, “her”) aviary just outside the main entrance. The raptors still keep a watchful eye on you as you enter the main exhibit hall, but last year we added a new interactive raptor exhibit, where you can imagine yourself as a red-tailed hawk soaring over Mt. Diablo.  In addition, we now have a hospital exhibit, with a theater where you can watch our veterinarians and staff as they work on injured wildlife, as well as learn more about the animals that we care for here.

Whether you’ve never been here, haven’t visited since you were 5 years old, or were just here last week, please join us for our annual “Free Day at the Museum” on Sunday, May 20, from 10-5. Free Admission all day long, so bring a picnic and make a day of it in surrounding Larkey Park. Come get up close and connect with some ofthe amazing wildlife who share our part of the world!
